This class is designed for artists in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
In 1886, The artists Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the painting technique of painting with very small points of color as opposed to blending the paint. The term Pointillism was actually used by critics at the time to make fun of these artists in a cruel way. Little did they know that the style as well as the named would survive as an inventive form of Impressionism. Georges Seurat found that the ability of the eye and the mind of the viewer to blend these dots of paint through sight could allow the use of more colors, and a broader range of tone in his paintings.
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of landscape drawing such as how to use horizon lines, Drawing tress, and knowing their parts, and drawing the scene in perspective. These may seem like difficult concepts for budding artists, but I promise you, they can do it!!!

When teaching the Visual Arts at our school, drawing is always at the forefront of our instruction. Mastering light, shadow, form and space often leads artists to work in pencil, painting, and hopefully sculpture. However, Print-making, as an art form, often stands to the side, seen as a way to make cards, T-shirts, or reproduce other forms of art. We see the PROCESS of making art to be as powerful as the product, and that truly is at the heart of being a printmaker. Students will learn to create prints, using the block-printing technique, mono-printing, and relief printing. We will also introduce several types of ink and all students will use an authentic printing press to run their own series of work.

Abstract Painting & Drawing (5th-9th graders)

This class is specifically designed for artists in 5th through 9th grade.
The word Abstract in Art is a tricky one. The word is used in conversations all the time, but is it really understood? And where does abstract art come from? By definition, abstract can mean something changed from the traditional image that we are used to, such as Picasso moving the parts of the face interchangeably. However, the definition that artists adore most is, “Something that is only a thought or idea, but has no physical existence.”That is, until artists bring it to life before our eyes! This class walks students through several Art-making processes that generate abstract images. We then encourage students to continue the work independently in their own direction.Classes will be structured as a lesson to teach the process, and then as a guided studio time. This is the perfect opportunity for a thoughtful growing artist to challenge their creative thinking. Students should be open minded, and able to work independently.
This class runs on Mon. 6/23/25, Tues.6/24/25, Wed. 6/25/25, & Thurs.6/26/25; 11:00am-12:30pm
