Artists LOVE to build things and work with their hands! This class is designed to teach students how to build an ARMATURE and to work with plaster gauze to build small sculptures of people.Making these pieces strong enough to stand up is only half of the fun. We also need to give the figures character, gesture, even whimsy as they sit, stand, lean and kneel around the studio!

Jean Dubuffet was a French painter and sculptor known for his rebellious approach to art. He challenged traditional ideas of beauty, “good taste,” and high culture. While many artists worked with marble, bronze, and oil paint, Dubuffet chose unconventional materials—using recycled scraps and even mixing gravel into his paint.
He called his work “Art Brut,” or “raw art,” and created a world driven purely by imagination and personal expression. In this class, students will explore Dubuffet’s free-form abstract sculptures by working with recycled materials, plaster, and paint to create bold, imaginative pieces of their own.
This class runs for 4 consecutive sessions; Monday 6/15/26, Tuesday 6/16/26, Wednesday 6/17/26, & Thursday 6/18/26; 12:00 pm -2:00 pm
