Beginning Drawing & Painting: The Still Life (Adult class)
with Michael Symber

This class is specifically designed for adults who are absolute beginners, and wanting to start their creative journey. That being said, we have had many advanced or experienced artists love this class, because of my unique approach to teaching drawing and painting. Whatever your level, please join us!
The purpose of this class is to help students to understand the concepts of space, form, light and shadow in drawing and painting.
First, you will learn about working with charcoal, and how it can create beautiful, soft values. I teach drawing in a unique way, connecting that experience directly to your acrylic painting techniques. Second, You will learn about acrylic paints, and how to mix your own tones to paint a still-life value study.
This workshop allows me to teach to the artistic process, and not the product empowering students to create in many styles and directions as they move forward.
Drawing is the root of many art forms, and I love seeing the confidence of my students grow in that respect!

Clay Portrait Sculpture (Live model)

For many artists sculpture is not a completely separate discipline from their other work. It is a natural progression from drawing to enhance their understanding of form and space. There is no better way to refine drawing skills, to deepen anatomical knowledge, and solidify one’s general familiarity with the figure than to make a sculpture.Students will learn to build an armature and to use terra-cotta clay as they study anatomy, proportions, and clay techniques building a life-size sculpture from a live model.
All materials are included: armature, clay, tools, model fees, firing included.
