Beginning Drawing & Painting: The Still Life (Adult class)
with Michael Symber

This class is specifically designed for adults who are absolute beginners, and wanting to start their creative journey. That being said, we have had many advanced or experienced artists love this class, because of my unique approach to teaching drawing and painting. Whatever your level, please join us!
The purpose of this class is to help students to understand the concepts of space, form, light and shadow in drawing and painting.
First, you will learn about working with charcoal, and how it can create beautiful, soft values. I teach drawing in a unique way, connecting that experience directly to your acrylic painting techniques. Second, You will learn about acrylic paints, and how to mix your own tones to paint a still-life value study.
This workshop allows me to teach to the artistic process, and not the product empowering students to create in many styles and directions as they move forward.
Drawing is the root of many art forms, and I love seeing the confidence of my students grow in that respect!
This 6 week class runs on Friday mornings, 10:00am-12:00pm; 8/8/25, 8/15/25, 8/22/25, 8/29/25, 9/5/25 & 9/12/25.
Guided Studio Tuesday Mornings: Fall Session '25 (By Invite Only)

This "Guided Study" class is an extension your previous art classes at Michael Symber Studios. This is a perfect opportunity for you to continue exploring your new found skills and/or finish pieces you have already started. All supplies and studio space are included.
This session is 10 weeks, on Tuesdays; 10:00am-12:00pm; 8/12/25, 8/19/25, 8/26/25, 9/2/25, 9/9/25, 9/16/25, 9/23/25, 9/30/ 25, 10/7/25 & 10/14/25.
Abstract Sculpture (Kids' class)

Ages: 5 - 10

Being a sculptor has taught me about the importance of connecting the 2 dimensional world to the 3 dimensional. As students use the same skill set to BUILD sculptures of their drawings, they will begin to understand what an architect might experience as they see blueprints come to life! Art concepts include the color wheel, abstraction, balance and motion.
I am looking forward to filling the ceiling of our studio with these hanging creations!
This 5 session class will run on Monday's 4:00-5:30pm, starting 8/18/25, 8/25/25, (Skipping over 9/1/25; Labor Day), 9/8/25, 9/15/25, & 9/22/25.
Intermediate Acrylic Still Life (Adult class)

This class is specifically designed for adult artisits.
This class is meant for artists who are ready to advance in their basic painting skills using acrylics with a focus on still life.
If you have taken our Beginning Still-life Painting class, or if you have a strong understanding of still-life value studies this class is your next step. Students will learn to introduce color into their paintings, and how to use advanced color palettes.
This class runs for 6 sessions on Tuesday evenings, 6:00pm-8:00pm; 8/19/25, 8/26/25, 9/2/25, 9/9/25, 9/16/25 & 9/23/25.

Landscape Painting & Color Theory (4 week course)

This class is specifically designed for the adult artisit.
Claude Monet actually coined the term Impressionism with his painting ‘Impression of a Sunset’, so with whom better to study landscape painting! Monet was a master of using color and brushwork to evoke beautiful, natural light in his paintings. Often, as artists, we draw images with a pencil, and fill them in with color, but please come to this class and learn to draw WITH paint. You will learn some incredibly mysterious color theories and how to use them in your paintings . Learning to SEE the world around us and to experience the possibilities of making pictures is the way to bring out our inner artist!
This 4 session class will run on Thursdays' mornings, 10:00am -12:00pm, 8/21/25, 8/28/25, 9/4/25 & 9/11/25.
Piet Mondrian: How Does Realistic Art Become Abstract? (Tween/Teens)

Ages: 10 - 19
This class is specifically designed for the tween/teen artists.
Piet Mondrian lived from 1872 two 1944. His paintings are some of the most recognizable in the world. What many do not realize is that he was not always an abstract painter. He was one of the most sensitive, talented and skillful realistic drawers and painters in history.In this class, students will trace his journey from realism to modern art by creating three separate pieces. One an incredibly realistic drawing. Two the beginning of Abstract art as Mondrian paints trees In a new way, and the third a completely abstract design made only from black white and the primary colors.I promise that they are all related closely and I will teach you why!
